Find peace with food and movement.

What do you need? How do you want to feel? Jenalee’s counseling starts with your life and values, then makes room for food, stress, sleep, and movement—without shame or rigid rules.

Healthy eating isn’t perfect eating.

What supports us goes deeper than food.

The approach

Four parts of health. One whole person.

Stress, sleep, food, and movement shape one another. Jenalee looks at these four connected pillars to understand what’s happening in your life and where change might feel possible.

01

Mental health

Stress, emotions, and your relationship with food deserve attention.

02

Diet

Notice how food feels, enjoy what you eat, and make room for nourishment.

03

Sleep

Rest can shape energy, stress, and how you notice hunger and fullness.

04

Exercise

Explore movement that supports you and fits this season of life.

These pillars guide a conversation. They aren’t a checklist to get “right.”

What counseling feels like

Getting to the root of wellness.

Maybe you want more energy to play with your kids, to feel more comfortable in your body, or to feel at ease around food. Jenalee listens for what matters to you, what has been getting in the way, and what kind of change fits your circumstances right now.

“I meet you where you are without judgment.”— Jenalee

Meet Jenalee

See the human. Set shame aside.

I’m Jenalee Richner, a registered dietitian and licensed dietitian nutritionist based in Charlottesville, Virginia. I was first drawn to nutrition by the way everyday eating can shape our quality of life over time.

As I’ve grown in my work, I’ve seen how emotions, stress, sleep, and our relationship with food influence what feels possible. When someone thinks they lack willpower, I want to understand what else is happening in their life.

I want to hear what brings you joy, what you’re carrying, and why change matters to you. Your path forward should fit your life. Your goals should fit your values. I offer nutrition counseling by telehealth for people ready to explore that path together.

Writing

Notes on food & real life.

Thoughts on the questions that come up between appointments and around the table.

A note from Jenalee

Healthy eating isn’t perfect eating.

People often tell me what they ate and then quickly add, “I know I shouldn’t have. It was bad.” Before we talk about food, I want to set that judgment down. Ice cream and pizza can be part of a life that also includes foods that nourish you.

I’m interested in how you feel, what your body needs, and what you hope will change. We can notice the foods that leave you feeling energized, find meals you enjoy, and pay attention to hunger and fullness without turning every choice into a verdict.

There is room for pleasure, nourishment, and curiosity at the same table.

I hope to write more about everyday breakfasts, meal prep and eating on a budget, and the ways sleep and stress affect our relationship with food.

For referring clinicians

Intuitive eating, with nourishment in view.

My counseling incorporates intuitive and mindful eating practices so patients can better recognize what their bodies need and build a more peaceful relationship with food. I focus on adding enjoyable, nourishing foods rather than centering restriction, often drawing on a Mediterranean-style eating pattern.

I also consider stress, sleep, and movement alongside eating. My aim is to understand each patient’s circumstances and offer guidance that fits their goals and season of life. I’m based in Charlottesville and offer telehealth nutrition counseling through Nourish. Clinicians can share my scheduling link with patients.
